Lower School
Grades K-4
We nurture our youngest scholars in a protected and loving atmosphere with highly qualified and experienced teachers who enrich each child and uncover his/her learning potential. The Caepe School provides a safe and affirming environment that allows students to flourish socially, emotionally, physically and academically.
The Lower School begins the student's journey in learning how to learn. Our curriculum is based on national standards, providing a strong foundation in reading and language arts, mathematics, social studies, science and foreign language. Teaching is centered around supporting each child individually, allowing us to customize the learning process for every student. We hold our students to high standards from the very beginning stages of the learning process, which shows our confidence in their abilities and translates into success for each child.
Students in the Lower School learn to read and write, and continue advancing their skills. They are immersed in rich literature, both fiction and non-fiction, based on their current reading levels. Students are exposed to books and writing exercises that encourage critical thinking and creative self-expression.
Mathematics instruction encourages accuracy, precision and problem solving skills as students learn the basic principles of mathematics reasoning. Our goal is to build in each student a solid foundation of mathematics beyond their chronological age or grade level, and to move them into more advanced mathematical problem solving and a higher level of thinking.
Thematic Social Studies and hands-on science units are enhanced and integrated with reading content area texts. Integration with text allows students to gain a deeper knowledge of the world around them.
In keeping with our goal to provide students with an enhanced understanding of the world, we introduce the Spanish language and studies of different cultures at the Lower School level.
Students will also be in the art of speaking and presenting their learning to a group.
