Upper School

Grades 9-12

The Caepe's Upper School prepares students intellectually, emotionally, and academically for success in college and beyond. We provide the tools necessary to build confidence and a sense of personal responsibility as well as social responsibility through community service. Teachers and coaches empower students to embrace an independence, willingness, and autonomy about learning, while helping them discover the direction for their future.

The Upper School provides a strong academic curriculum along with physical education, athletics, fine arts, performance arts, social activities and community service. Students develop necessary study skills, a committed work ethic, and a positive attitude of perseveranceŅall essential for success in college and the professions.

Students follow an academic map for completion of graduation credits, including a minimum of five courses each semester and at least 23 credits overall. These credits include 4 of English, 3 of History, 4 of Mathematics, 3 of Laboratory Science, 3 of the same Foreign Language, 2 of The Arts and 2 of Physical Education.

Our freshman students start with required courses and a few electives. In later years, students have the opportunity for additional elective and Advanced Placement courses. Students also have the chance to participate in an independent study in consultation with a faculty member.

Upper School students will continue to develop reading, writing and research skills through the English Program. The program focuses on both fiction and non-fiction reading, writing for different purposes and research projects utilizing the use of both new technology and archived library sources.

The mathematics program includes instruction in geometry, algebra, pre-calculus, trigonometry and calculus.

Students will build a foundation in physics, biology and chemistry with an emphasis on ecology and the environment through the Science program.

In the history program, students will build on the foundation of United States and world history they received in the lower schools. They will learn the practical interpretation of events, their causes and effects, conclusions and relative significance.

Upper School students will expand their study in foreign languages to include immersion in conversation. Students will have multiple language options including an after school Mandarin Club.
